Alberta’s iGaming Market Launches with 50 Registered Operators

news

Tomorrow will mark Alberta’s launch of its regulated iGaming market and 50 operators have already registered.

FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM Caesars Betway PointsBet TheScoreBet Bet365 BetRivers are among the registered operators that have met all registration and fee payment obligations.

Registration and Commercial Agreements

One of the newly registered operators is Tonybet from Estonia, now operating across three regulated Canadian markets: Ontario, Kahnawake and Alberta.

Market Entry and Player Trust

Tonybet recently unveiled the results of a YouGov survey conducted across Alberta, Ontario and Quebec that revealed 74% of Canadian respondents would never use an iGaming platform without Canadian licensing permission. It included players aged 22-54.

Tonybet entered the Canadian market with the intention of building sustainable and regulated growth, according to its CEO. Players appreciate operators that comply with regulations in order to build trust over time with players and operators alike.

Tonybet’s Growth in Canada

Tonybet experienced remarkable expansion across Canada during 2025, registering nearly double registrations year-on-year, increasing gross gaming revenue 69% year-over-year and experiencing 24% increases in active users by December compared to their prior year performance.

Company leadership has made substantial investments to provide fast and safe withdrawals that signal trust to players.

Entering Alberta’s regulated gaming market can be seen as an exciting development for both operators and players, offering enhanced safety standards, responsible gambling tools such as integration with AiGC’s self-exclusion system and integration of AiGC self-exclusion into one cohesive experience that balances entertainment with reliability and player protection. Long term success rests upon creating such an experience for customers that ensures both.

Player Priorities and Responsible Gambling

Betty Gaming Canada conducted research that revealed Albertans prioritize trust and transparency when selecting online gaming platforms in Alberta’s new regulated market. Sixty-one percent of respondents considered online gambling safe after learning more about Alberta’s regulatory framework; these considerations remain top priorities when selecting platforms.

The AGLC Standards and Requirements for Internet Gaming highlight responsible gambling, requiring operators to offer accessible and visible responsible gaming information and tools – such as self-assessment options and time and deposit limits – that support responsible play.

Self-Exclusion from Launch

Alberta requires operators to obtain RG Check accreditation as part of a stringent set of standards and safeguards, unlike Ontario where self-exclusion was introduced four years after market opening. Alberta will feature its self-exclusion platform from day one of market opening.

Registered operators must promote a self-exclusion system, and refund any wagers placed if someone enrolls before any unsettled futures bets have settled.
