Michael and Jenna Morton opened Crush as part of the Morton Group portfolio – also including La Cave at Wynn Las Vegas and One Steakhouse at Virgin Hotels – in December 2013. Crush’s closure marks another independent restaurant departure from MGM Grand this year after Nellie’s Southern Kitchen by Jonas family closed when its lease ended late May due to group’s overall withdrawal from Las Vegas.
Shortly thereafter, MGM Grand permanently closed down their long-running buffet at the end of May as part of an industrywide shift away from all-you-can-eat dining following pandemic outbreak. Unfortunately, no replacement tenants for Crush, Nellie’s or its buffet space have yet been announced by MGM Grand, while Morton Group has not made clear whether Crush may reopen at another location.
Michael and Jenna Morton recently disclosed the loss of Eli, their 25-year-old son who battled addiction but sadly passed away due to it. There has been no indication that Crush’s closure is linked to this tragic event.
Changes at Circus Circus Food Court
At Circus Circus, Big Top Eats was removed as its operator and with it Burger King, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Einstein Bros Bagels and Pick Up Stix have closed for good. FGB Big Top LLC which ran Big Top Eats filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this year; and according to reports they currently owe $2 Million back rent owed from Circus Circus.
Even so, Tony Ravelo of Ravelo Brands–already responsible for Chico’s Tacos at Circus Circus and Krispy Kreme stands–plans to introduce eight new concepts when the food court reopens in mid October. Meanwhile Feel Good Brands continues to operate food courts at both TI and Excalibur which remain open.
Dining Highlights and Upcoming Openings
Mothership Coffee Roaster, an established local brand, will open their inaugural Strip location near In-N-Out Burger and Netflix House at BLVD Las Vegas on January 1, 2027.
Health Inspection Closure
On August 8 during a routine inspection by the Southern Nevada Health District, Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill located in Blue Diamond was shut down due to multiple violations and unlawful practices.
